Always Be My Prince? (sad ending)
It had been years since Lukas last spoke to (Name). After becoming grown countries and gaining the full responsibilities, they never had time to talk to each other...Until the fateful day that Lukas learned the worst news in his life.
It had started as a regular day, choking Mathias, talking to fairies and the usual default expression. However, all that ended when he was called to his boss’s office.
“Norway, I have recently received news concerning about our old ally, (Country Name). Due to the major economic issues, (Country Name) has fallen and will be dissolved completely tomorrow morning. That’s all, you may leave.” Lukas was struck with shock from what he had heard. The only constant thing that ran through his head that (Name) was going to be dissolved and forever never to be seen.
At that moment, Lukas ran out of the building, fear and despair in his heart. He teleported himself to (Name’s) house, and what he saw was his worst nightmare.
The once beautiful house was now a deformed hovel. The sunlight that always shone down on a beautiful garden now lighted down on a graveyard of nature. (Name) was truly being dissolved. The truth had finally reached to Lukas, and he couldn’t help but let the emotion built up inside him break the barrier.
“(N-name)...No...No! This can’t be happening!” Lukas had broken down onto the gray grass, crying for his friend. After sobbing for a while, Lukas finally decided to visit his friend one last time. When the man walked in through the house, he couldn’t help but notice the once cheery atmosphere was now replaced with one of pain and suffering.
After walking through the house, Lukas finally stopped in front of the one door that was still intact. Pushing it open, the sight in front of him nearly made him want to scream and cry in anguish.
In front of him, (Name) was sleeping peacefully, her hair framing her and almost making her look like a princess. However, she looked smaller, frail and pained somewhat. But what was worse was that she was translucent.
“(N-name)?” The said woman opened her still vibrant (e/c) eyes and turned to face at Lukas with surprise shown on her face. Nothing was said between them, just staring. Lukas immediately walked up to (Name) and pulled her into a hug, her body see-through and looking like it was just smoke in thin air. Finally the woman went out of her daze from the hug, and slowly hugged her friend back.
“Hello, Lukas...I’m glad I could see you before I disappeared.” The man only hugged her tighter, his usual emotionless eyes now showed something new. The sadness of losing a loved one.
It was like this for the rest of the hours, the time close to becoming morning. The two of them just clinging onto each other as if it was almost the end of the world, trying their best to not cry for the other’s sake. All the while, (Name) was reminiscing the happy moments of her life, and a specific one stood out in her mind.
“...Lukas,” the said man opened his teary midnight blue eyes to gaze into (e/c) ones, “do you remember the day when we were just small kids and played ‘Save the Princess’?” Lukas just nodded and clung onto (Name) tighter, his face pressed close to the woman’s soft (h/c) hair.
“...Well then, I have one question before I go away. Will you always be my prince, even in death?” Lukas tensed instantly. It was almost the same question (Name) asked when they were young, when it was their time of happiness. Without hesitation, Lukas replied with a strong voice, though there was a raspy tone to it.
“I’ll always be your prince, in life and death. I’ll always be the one there to save you and hold you close.” (Name)’s eyes teared slightly, but she made no attempt to brush them off. Instead, she smiled softly. A smile filled with love and sadness.
“Well the my prince, I have one request. Kiss me and hold me in your arms like in the fairytales, and smile for me,” (Name) said softly as she gazed into midnight blue eyes.
Lukas’s face began streaming with tears, but still did what his princess requested. Leaning in, he kissed (Name) softly on her lips with gentleness, love and passion, and his kiss was returned with such as well. The man hugged (Name) close and smiled a bittersweet smile.
“(Name), jeg elsker deg. I always have.” Without both noticing, (Name) was beginning to disappear from the bottom of her feet, fast.
“Lukas... I love you, too.” With that final word said, (Name) was gone in a swirl of flashing lights.
The Norwegian man was wide eyed with shock. His best friend, the one he loved all his life, had just vanished forever. Tears were already streaming down his face and for the first time in his life, he screamed his anger, sadness, loneliness and heartbreak with all his might. As Lukas wailed and sobbed, he failed to notice a small note that said,
‘We’ll meet again, at a happier time with a happier ending.’
Your Best Friend and Love,
It had been years since (Name) was dissolved, and Lukas had slowly healed from his heartbreak. However, every time he heard something similar to (Name) and her country, he felt that he would break down immediately.
Lukas was currently walking back to the Nordic house and when he got there, the idiot Dane started talking to fast for him to comprehend what he was saying.
“Idiot, slow down. You sound like an annoying, dying bird.” Mathias just pouted at Lukas, but talked slower anyway.
“Well, I was just saying that an old country somehow managed to revive and is going to live with us for a while. I’m hoping that it’ll be a cute little girl~<3!” Lukas just sighed and choked Mathias with his tie.
All the Nordics were preparing for the newcomer, who has yet to be revealed to them. Just when they were finishing, a knock was heard at the door.
“I’ll get it,” Lukas emotionlessly said. The man unlocked the door and opened it wide to look down and see familiar (e/c) eyes, (h/l)(h/c) hair and the smile that he had missed for so long. Except this time, this version of (Name) looked much younger.
“(N-name)?” The young girl looked up at him confused, but the next question took him off guard.
“Are you my prince?”
‘When you truly love someone, you’ll let them go. If that special someone truly loves you, they’ll come back.’
